The World's Columbian Exposition
The Worlds Columbian Exposition is also known as the Chicago World's Fair. This world's Fair was held in Chicago in 1893. This celebration was for the 400th anniversary of Chistopher Columbus discovery of the United States. The only other states that held the world fair that was in the United States were in New York, Washington D.C., St. Louis Missouri.
The open ceremonies was help on October 21, 1892 but they actually made it public on May 1,1893. It was on Jackson's Park and on the Midway Plaisance. Some of the big people that came to the world fair is Thomas Edison ,Jane Adams, Henry Adams,Andrew Carnegie and Grover Cleveland. There was more than 200 buindings that was built for this event. There is only 2 buildings left and they are Palace of Fine Arts and World's Congress Auxiliary Building. All of the other buildings were just made to be temperorary. The temporary buildings were not made of stone like they were suppossed to. Instead they did a mixture of plaster and hemp. This was called staff. This staff was spray painted white and this made it look like a gleam. It was called the white city.
