The Vietnam War from 1966-1975
I know that I need to do my blog on 1966-1975 but i am starting a little sooner. On August 2, 1964 it was a very important day in the war. It was the day that the U.S. sent more troops to increase it to 21,000 troops. On the same day the destroyer USS Maddox was getting attacked by three Torpedo Boats. These three Torpedo boats was known to belong to North Vietnam. The USS Maddox was on a intelligence mission when it was attacked. Two days later another U.S. boat got attacked in the same situation. This made the U.S. unhappy and they did attacks on North Vietnam. And Congress approved something called the Southeast Asia Resolution or The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. This resolution basically just said that the president could attack them without declaring war. Later it was not allowed and they could not get the second attack in. National Security Council said that Johnson adopt a plan for North Vietnam. He did and it was three stage bomb. This General named William Westmoreland increased are troop size from 16,000 to 553,000. Because of this a couple of country's sent some troops also. These country's were Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea,Thailand and the Philippines. This led to better operations like Masher,Attleboro,Cedar Falls and Junction City. All of these lasted a long time but not that long.
