The 21st Amendment

The 21st Amendment is a very simple Amendment to understand. The only thing you have to understand is the 18th Amendment. They both had a big impact on History. In this essay I will be describing what both Amendments are and what they did for our country.

Starting with the 18th Amendment. The 18th Amendment is very important because it did not let people smuggle alcoholic beverages. They did not let you sell, make or import these drinks. The Congress voted this in on October 1919. It was in affect one year later. There was a man named John Barleycorn he wanted to have beer in the country and he was going to do anything to have it stay here. In 1920, when he did all he could he died of an unknown killer. Some say that people killed him and other websites say that he did not want to live under these rules so he killed himself. Well anyways once he died there was people celebrating his death. He died in 1920.

There were a lot of protesters at this time in History. When the war ended people were wondering why the 18th Amendment remained. Since it was illegal to have alcoholic beverages in the country people now wanted it more than ever. This led to "Underground" drinking. What they did was, since it was illegal people decided to hide there booze anywhere they could find. Many opened bars but hid the alcohol when people in charge came in. Sooner or later people found the Major's and different Government people enjoying themselves and having a good time in these illegal Bars. That is when they started to think it might be a bad idea to keep this 18th Amendment in place.

The 18th Amendment was put in place to take away Alcoholic beverages in the country. Did it work? It is really a matter of opinion. Some say that Prohibition did not work at well as they hoped but it still worked. While others say that it did not help at all it actually was worst when the 18th was in place. The crime went up, there was more people in jail and prison than ever before. I personally do not think it worked because once you take something away from someone they just want it more and they do not care what they have to do to get it. This goes a long with anything.

For this essay I told you what the 21st Amendment was. What it did for our country. I also told you what the 18th Amendment was because the 21st repealed it. They thought the 18th Amendment would fix everything but come to find out it did not help at all.

The topics brought up at the Presidential elections

There is a couple of things I would bring up at the Presidential Debate and these next couple of paragraphs will be on them. People might think that there is different and more important things to bring up but this is what I think.

The first topic would be about the Iraq War. I would question Hilary Clinton or Rudy Giuliani or whoever you think that is going to win the election. If you start asking questions about the war you are going to get some lies from the presidential candidate. Maybe not lies but promises that they can not keep. I would ask this question because I would like to hear how they would go about finishing the war, because the war is not finished by any means. The presidential candidates tell you anything that you want to hear to get your votes. And most of the people want to hear that they are going to pull them out of Iraq and let them come home.

The next thing is Universal Health care. It would be fun to here how they will approach this. I know a lot of people want better health care and some want health care. Should we give health care to immigrants? I would just want to ask these questions because I do not the answers to them. I know what I would do but I am not the one making the decisions for our country.

The last thing would be a couple of minor things such as Gas prices. In that article someone killed a store owner after he came over to confront him about his gas station being three cents cheaper. The next thing is homes. There is a lot of foreclosure's going around, not just in our area but everywhere. So I would like to confront them on this.

In this essay I told you what questions I would ask the presidential candidates. Some people would agree with me on some of the questions I would ask, but some people might want to ask different questions and that is fine. I did not cover every subject that is making America nervous.

What is important about a president?

This essay will be about, why the president is so important to America. This will also be about, how we go about selecting a president. There is a lot of jobs that the president has and I will tell you about them.

As everyone knows it all started by a guy named George Washington. On April 30, 1789 George Washington, standing on the balcony of Federal Hall where he took the oath to become our first President. George Washington ran away with being the first President when he won 100% electoral votes. This is the only time in History that anyone did this. The Congress agreed to pay him $25,000, a lot at that time but when they offered him this he refused saying that he is a "selfless public servant." He was plenty wealthy at this time so he did not really need to take this, but then Congress got a little angry with him and then Washington finally took this payment.

The President of the United States or also referred as POTUS, has a lot of jobs they must do. The main ones are, he has to be head of the State and head of Government. Article 2 of the Constitution states that he has to be Commander and Chief of the Armed forces. He has the power to sign a bill. He has to be able to grant pardons and he can also make treaties. He has to appoint Federal officers. He also has to appoint judges and Ambassador's. They have a lot of different jobs and these are not easy.

Some people might say that the Presidents job is easy. This is when you laugh in there face and call them an idiot. They might argue that he gets cool stuff like a huge jet and they get a huge house. Whatever they get while doing this job the deserve it. This is one of the hardest jobs out there, yeah they get cool stuff but the work they do it is kinda not worth it. When people are talking about a president no matter who it is you have to take off your hat to them for what they did for our country.

In this essay I told you some of the responsibility that a president has to do in there term. This stuff is not easy and I thank every president that tried to make our country better. Its not easy but someone has to do it.

Who is going to be the final two people?

The two people I think will be Hillary Clinton for the Democratic side and Rudy Giuliani for the Republican side. I pick these two people because I believe that they are the best choice for America.

First Hillary Clinton, she is running away with the Democratic field slowly. She is separating herself from a guy named Barack Obama. Barack has made a couple of comments that made people a little unhappy, letting Hillary Clinton slip away even further. Hillary was elected to the United States Senate in 2000. She agreed to some of the ideas by President Bush, and when she went for a new term she was elected by a land slide. Right after the 9/11 attacks she worked with a guy named Charles E. Schumer to raise money for the trade centers. With there work they raised 21.4 billion in funding. If the race ended right now I believe she is or next President of the United States.

Next is Rudy Giuliani, known as the big Yankee fan and cancer survivor. He was the major of New York during the September 11 attacks. He showed great leadership and he was not afraid of the challenge. The New York people love him and everyone involved in the terrorist attacks love him. In 2001 Time magazine named him the Person Of The Year, he was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. He was the major of New York from 1994-2001. After this he published the book Leadership. The thing that is going to hurt Rudy is that he has been in a divorce twice.

People might disagree with me saying that they think Barack is going to take it or Chris Dodd or even Joe Biden. On the republican side there is a couple people that America might vote for over Rudy and they are Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Mike Huckabee. But I think that Hillary is going to take it. She is showing what it takes to win.

I told who I think would be there in the end. If you disagree with me that's okay everyone has there opinion. As I said before that I think as a nation we will vote for Hillary but I think that it is still to early to tell who is going to pull it out.
