Free Blog: White House

For my free blog I decided to tell you about the White House. As you might know that the White House is where the President lives. It all started when John Adams started living there.

The White House is located in Washington D.C. In 1801 the person that lived there decided to expand it and his name was Thomas Jefferson. In 1814 the White House was burned destroying the inside and some of the outside. Of course right when this happened they started to rebuild it. James Monroe was able to move back into the White House in 1817. They still would be rebuilding it for a while. William Howard Taft decided to expand the
West Wing.

While Nixon was President, the first lady Pat Nixon decided to decorate some rooms and they are the Green Room, The blue room and the Red Room. While they were there she brought in 600 paintings and artifacts, the most a person has ever put in there. When Bill Clinton took office he did his part on helping rebuilding it. Clinton and his wife decided to help restore a lot of rooms. During the reign of Clinton they started to rebuild a room dedicated to Lincoln. It got finished during President Bush's term. The White House is one of the only government buildings that is made wheelchair capable. They made this because Franklin D Roosevelt who used a wheelchair.

The dimensions are unbelievable on this house. First of all it is 6 stories. It is 55,000 square feet and it has 132 rooms with 35 bathrooms. It has 412 doors with 147 windows. In this house they have have a movie theater, a single lane for bowling along with a putting green. It also has 3 elevators, 8 staircases along with 28 fireplaces. oh yeah did I mention that it also has a tennis court and a swimming pool and lastly a track for people to run on it.

I liked doing this blog because it was fun and sum what easy. I did not know that the White House was this big. I knew that it was big but this is beyond big. But I believe that if you are able to live there that you deserve it and you still work very hard.
