Vietnam after the war

Vietnam has already pasted the 25th year after the war. William S. Cohan visited Vietnam in 2000 and he refused to apologize for the military's action during the war. He said something that I really agree with and this was, " Both nations were scarred by this. They [the Vietnamese] have their own scars from the war. We certainly have ours." I believe that everyone has scars from the war that they fought. Vietnam has been a major part of our presidential politics. We get along better with Vietnam but there is still a little tension between us. Will this tension ever go away? I don't think that it will ever go away but I think it will go down a little. Everyone remembers The Vietnam war and that is why I don't think that we will ever forgive the Vietnamese and the Vietnamese will never forgive us. This is why there will always be tension between us. It took us 25 years for this war. There is two pictures that show you some sad stuff. The first picture is people just laying in the road. The next picture is what are troops had to go through.

Post War History- America

The last action in Vietnam was on May 15, 1975. This is when 18 marines died for the U.S. They were killed in in a rescue mission. This was called the Mayaguez incident. After this there was something called the Domino Theory. The Domino theory was a 20th Century forien policy. Domino Theory is if a reign of land goes under Communist then this land is under Domino Theory. This was proved to be a illusion. South East Asia di not fall into this theory. There was another idea and it was called the Eastern Bloc. This idea also was not a good one. Without the Americans the Soviet Union and Vietnam had taken a little loss on this. But the American position did not get a very big loss.

The Vietnam War from 1966-1975

I know that I need to do my blog on 1966-1975 but i am starting a little sooner. On August 2, 1964 it was a very important day in the war. It was the day that the U.S. sent more troops to increase it to 21,000 troops. On the same day the destroyer USS Maddox was getting attacked by three Torpedo Boats. These three Torpedo boats was known to belong to North Vietnam. The USS Maddox was on a intelligence mission when it was attacked. Two days later another U.S. boat got attacked in the same situation. This made the U.S. unhappy and they did attacks on North Vietnam. And Congress approved something called the Southeast Asia Resolution or The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. This resolution basically just said that the president could attack them without declaring war. Later it was not allowed and they could not get the second attack in. National Security Council said that Johnson adopt a plan for North Vietnam. He did and it was three stage bomb. This General named William Westmoreland increased are troop size from 16,000 to 553,000. Because of this a couple of country's sent some troops also. These country's were Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea,Thailand and the Philippines. This led to better operations like Masher,Attleboro,Cedar Falls and Junction City. All of these lasted a long time but not that long.
